India is a country in South Asia. It has a rich history, traditions and culture. India is bounded by Bay of Bengal in the east, Himalayas on the north, Arabian Sea on the west and Indian Ocean to its south. 
India is such huge country with lots of diversity that it is referred as Indian Sub-continent. So obviously question comes to our mind that “Why India is called as subcontinent?”.

India is country with huge cultural diversity. Food and language changes after kilometers even within state. Even in same religion there different food habits, lifestyle, gods-goddess, festivals.

Economic diversity in India varies from place to place in India. Also economic disparity is found in India in different class and strata of society. More than 2/3rd population in India are poor and nearly 1% of the people held more than 70% of wealth.

With such a huge diversity there is also diversity in political ideology and thinking in India. Along-with right and left wing political ideology; communist, deprived class, socialist, social liberalism, regional parties etc.
6.Social diversity
India is highly diverse in social strata. Social diversity such caste system, rich-poor etc are found in society. There many social strata in India such Brahmins, Kshtriya, Shudra and Vaishya. Different section of the social strata usually do different kind of jobs. 
7.Climatic diversity
Since continents are geographical big land mass, there are variations in climatic conditions of different. These types of variations are also experienced in different parts of India. The climatic diverse condition according Koppen classification is as follow:

8.Vast region
Continents are usually big in geographical size. Australia which is country and also a continent is 6th largest country in the world. India is 7th biggest country just after Australia. So size is also a factor which puts it into sub-continent category. 
9. Religious diversity
India is home to most religious diverse population in the world. Religion like Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jains, Parsis. India is also birth place of Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and Budhism. 
10.Huge population
Since continents are huge landmass, huge populations can be found there. India is a country which is heavy huge population which makes it to be called sub-continent.
